What Is This Equipment?

The FOCAS-1800 is a 15ppm bilge alarm, also called an oil concentration detector or OCM. It consists of a control box with display, alarm indicators and terminals, and an attached optical detector unit through which the sample water flows. The unit is installed on the discharge line of the oily water separator (OWS) and signals the three-way valve or discharge valve to stop overboard discharge when the 15 ppm limit is exceeded, in line with MARPOL Annex I.

Common Problems & Troubleshooting

• High or unstable ppm reading: often caused by a dirty sample detection tube, air bubbles or detergent in the sample. Clean the detection tube and perform zero-point compensation with clean fresh water.
• Measurement alarm / stain indication: check the sample flow and pressure, the filter and the detection tube condition.
• No sample water: check sample line valves, filter blockage and the separator discharge pressure.
• No display / no power: check the supply voltage and the internal 3 A fuse; if the fuse fails again, the power supply or another board may be faulty.
• Memory record problems: check or replace the memory card and the clock backup battery.
