The Alfa Laval DS-20 Salinometer monitors the salt content of the fresh water produced by Alfa Laval fresh water generators (evaporators) on board ships. If salinity rises above the alarm set point, it gives an alarm and can dump the bad water so that only good quality water goes to the fresh water tanks. The DS-20 is a compact electronic salinometer installed on the fresh water generator. An electrode (conductivity cell) in the distillate line measures conductivity, and the unit shows salinity in ppm on an LED bar scale from 0 to 20 ppm. The operator sets the alarm level with the ALARM SET keys, and the TEST 10 PPM key checks the alarm function. When salinity is too high, the alarm LED lights, the alarm relay operates and the dump valve / solenoid valve can return the water to the bilge or evaporator. A secondary alarm can be switched on or off with the SEC. ALARM ON/OFF key. The DS-20 is used with Alfa Laval fresh water generator types such as the JWSP-26 series and other Alfa Laval JWP / Nirex fresh water generators.
