The Anschütz Standard 22 NX is one of the most widely used gyro compasses on merchant ships, offshore vessels and naval ships. The Standard 22 NX is a digital gyro compass that finds true north using a gyrosphere floating in supporting liquid inside a sealed outer sphere (gyro container). A pump circulates the liquid, a heater and temperature sensor keep it at operating temperature, and a step motor with encoder follows the gyrosphere and turns its position into a heading signal. Electronics on the outer sphere and at the top of the compass (sensor, connection and power supply PCBs) process the heading and send it to the operator unit, distribution unit, repeaters, radar, ECDIS, autopilot and VDR. The Standard 22 NX is the newer digital generation of the Standard 22 (type 110-233) and uses the same proven gyrosphere design.
