The JUE-500 uses JRC's stabilized antenna technology with a three-axis control arrangement.
The antenna does not require external gyro or GPS data for normal satellite tracking, and JRC designed the antenna arrangement to avoid cable twisting during continuous satellite tracking.

This is particularly important for any vessel still operating a JUE-500.
JRC issued an official notice stating that the JUE-500 was affected by a GPS Week Number Rollover on 8 September 2024.
JRC states that affected units can fail to complete registration with the Inmarsat network, resulting in loss of communication, and the internal clock/log date may reset. The manufacturer's countermeasure is a software upgrade.
Therefore, any JUE-500 being returned to service should have its software version checked before installation or shipment.
If the equipment previously worked but will no longer register, first check the software version because of the documented 2024 GPS Week Number Rollover issue. JRC specifically identifies software updating as the corrective action.

The official successor to the JUE-500 is the JRC JUE-501 FleetBroadband FB500.
JRC states that the JUE-251/501 were developed as successors to the JUE-250/500, with reduced equipment size and weight, greater integration and improved networking functionality.
For a failed JUE-500 installation, customers therefore have two possible approaches:
Option 1: Source a compatible JUE-500 replacement unit or spare part.
Option 2: Evaluate retrofit/upgrade to the JUE-501 or another current communication solution.
Compatibility, cabling and FleetBroadband service status should be checked before upgrading.
Many vessels were equipped with the JUE-500 as part of their onboard satellite-communications infrastructure.
Replacing only a failed antenna, BDE, PSU or interface unit can sometimes avoid immediate changes to:
