JRC documentation identifies several important JFE-680 system components:
JFE-680 – Main Display Unit
UT-200ND – 200 kHz Transducer
UT-50MD – 50 kHz Transducer
NKF-341 – 200 kHz Transducer Mounting
NKF-345 – 50 kHz Transducer Mounting
AW-154F – 200 kHz Matching Box
AW-154F-50 – 50 kHz Matching Box
7ZPJD0384 – Printer Paper
BRBX05351 / BRBX05355 / BRBX05354 – Flush Mounting Kits
BRBX05340 – Table Mounting Kit
A secondary transducer, matching box and associated cable can be used as an optional configuration.
Used for normal navigation and continuous presentation of water-depth and seabed echo information.
Allows operators to review stored depth information. JRC specifies up to 24 hours of memorized depth data, providing useful historical feedback.
Designed to provide useful depth presentation during operations where close monitoring of water depth is important, including harbor and docking situations.
The supplied SM MARINE SERVICE™ unit can be seen operating in DOCKING MODE.
The JRC JFE-680 can be used aboard:
• Cargo Ships
• Bulk Carriers
• Container Ships
• Oil & Chemical Tankers
• LNG/LPG Carriers
• Passenger Ships
• Offshore Vessels
• Research Vessels
• Merchant Ships
The equipment provides bridge personnel with continuous water-depth information for navigation, shallow-water monitoring, port approaches and docking operations.
Check the incoming AC supply, circuit protection, internal power section and electrical connections.
Inspect the transducer, matching box, cable and associated connectors. Also confirm that the correct frequency and range are selected.
Possible causes include aerated water, poor transducer conditions, inappropriate gain/range settings, cable problems or interference.
Check transducer performance and the associated AW-154F / AW-154F-50 matching box where fitted. Confirm that the selected frequency corresponds with the installed transducer.
Check thermal paper installation, printer mechanism and printer-related electrical connections.
Check the relevant transducer, matching box, cabling and channel configuration before replacing the main display.
Inspect IEC 61162-1 interface wiring and the external navigation equipment providing data to the JFE-680.
JRC officially specifies the following alarm functions:
• Depth Alarm
• Power Fail Alarm
• System Error Alarm
The system configuration also provides water-depth alarm, system alarm and power-supply alarm interfaces.
Exact fault diagnosis should follow the applicable JRC instruction/service documentation rather than replacing components based solely on an alarm indication.
• Inspect the display and control panel regularly.
• Keep ventilation areas clean.
• Check printer operation and thermal paper.
• Inspect transducer cables and connectors.
• Verify matching-box connections.
• Confirm accurate depth readings against known conditions when appropriate.
• Check both 50 kHz and 200 kHz channels where installed.
• Inspect IEC 61162-1 interface wiring.
• Investigate intermittent readings before they become permanent failures.
• Use correct replacement components matching the installed frequency.

Equipment may be available in new, used, refurbished, reconditioned or tested working condition, depending on current stock.
Because JRC discontinued the JFE-680 in 2025, good used and reconditioned components can be particularly useful for maintaining existing shipboard installations. JRC's published replacement models are the JFE-400 / JFE-700.
Many vessels already have JFE-680 transducers, matching boxes, wiring and bridge installations in place.
When only the display, printer, PCB, power section or another component fails, maintaining the existing installation with a compatible replacement can sometimes be more practical than immediately changing the complete echo-sounder system.
Its dual-frequency capability, integrated printer, depth-history storage and straightforward controls also make the JFE-680 a familiar system for many marine operators.
