The JRC NJU-64 Performance Monitor is an optional radar performance monitoring unit made by Japan Radio Co., Ltd. (JRC), Japan, for JRC X-band marine radar installations. It allows the navigator to check the overall performance of the radar transmitter and receiver directly on the radar display. SM MARINE SERVICE™ supplies the NJU-64 and other JRC radar spare parts to ship owners, ship managers and service engineers worldwide. Visit https://www.smmarineservice.com/ for more navigation and communication equipment.
A radar performance monitor (PM) is a small unit installed near the radar antenna (scanner). When the PM function is switched on, the unit receives the radar's transmitted pulses and returns a test signal, which appears on the display as a PM pattern (arcs/rings). By comparing this pattern with the reference recorded at installation, the operator can see whether transmitter power and receiver sensitivity have dropped. According to the JRC JMA-5200 series manual, the NJU-64 PM pattern is adjusted so that its outer edge appears between 10 and 18 NM, and an information label supplied with the monitor is attached to the display unit.

Picks up the radar's transmitted pulse and generates the return test signal that forms the PM pattern on the display.
Switches the PM on and off on command from the radar and connects to the radar through the interconnection cable.
Safety note: Switch off the radar and use the safety switch before working near the scanner. Radar microwave radiation and the rotating antenna are dangerous; work must be done by a qualified radar technician.
Radar alarms are shown on the JRC display unit and described in the radar manual. We do not list undocumented alarm codes; please send us the exact message on your display.

Many ships still operate JRC JMA-5200 series radars. The performance monitor is the easiest way for the crew to confirm radar performance, so when the NJU-64 is damaged, owners replace it with the same model to keep the existing radar settings and installation.
Q1. What is the JRC NJU-64?
It is an optional performance monitor (PM unit) for JRC X-band marine radar.
Q2. Which radars use the NJU-64?
It is documented in the JRC JMA-5200 series manual (JMA-5206, JMA-5210 and JMA-5220 models). The JMA-5206/HS has no PM option.
Q3. What does the performance monitor show?
A PM pattern on the radar display used to check transmitter and receiver performance.
Q4. How is the NJU-64 adjusted?
From the radar's Equipment Setup → TRX Setting → PM Adjustment menu, so the PM pattern edge is within 10–18 NM.
Q5. What PCB is inside the NJU-64?
Internal PCB numbers are not visible and not published; send us your unit details and we will check.
Q6. Is the NJU-85 the same as the NJU-64?
No. The NJU-85 is a later JRC performance monitor listed for JMA-5200Mk2/5300Mk2; interchangeability is not verified.
Q7. Where is the NJU-64 installed?
Outdoors, near the radar scanner unit.
Q8. Where is it made?
In Japan, by Japan Radio Co., Ltd.
Q9. Do you ship worldwide?
