What Is This Equipment?

A navigation echo sounder sends an acoustic pulse from a hull-mounted transducer and measures the time until the echo returns from the sea bed. The LAZ 5100 Display and Control Unit generates the pulse, processes the echo and shows the depth as a number and as a colour echogram. A basic system consists of the display and control unit, a connection box near the transducer and one or two transducers. Depth data is sent by NMEA to ECDIS, VDR and other bridge equipment, as required by SOLAS Chapter V.
