Product Introduction

The LIPS % Pitch Indicator is an analog panel meter showing the blade pitch of a controllable pitch propeller (CPP) from 100% astern through zero to 100% ahead. It is driven by a 1 mA signal from the CPP pitch feedback system and is installed on the bridge console, bridge wings or in the engine control room.

What Is This Equipment?

On ships with a controllable pitch propeller, the propeller speed often stays constant and thrust is controlled by changing the blade pitch. The pitch indicator tells the officer how much pitch is set, ahead or astern. LIPS was one of the best-known Dutch makers of controllable pitch propellers, and their indicators were supplied with the CPP remote control systems.

The supplied units have a white dial with the LIPS logo, a red ASTERN scale (100 – 50 – 0) and a black AHEAD scale (0 – 50 – 100), marked "% PITCH" and "1mA". The meter maker mark NEAF and an accuracy class marking (1,5) are printed at the bottom of the dial.
