Product Introduction

This is a brand new Raytheon Anschütz gyrosphere, type 111-006, serial number 109669. The gyrosphere is the heart of the Anschütz gyro compass: it floats in the supporting liquid inside the master compass and finds true north. This gyrosphere is used in the Anschütz Standard 20, Standard 22 and Standard 22 NX gyro compasses.

What Is This Equipment?

The gyrosphere is a sealed sphere containing the gyro rotors. In the Anschütz master compass (sensor unit) it floats in a heated supporting liquid inside the outer sphere. When the compass is switched on, the liquid is heated to about 45 °C and the gyrosphere settles to the meridian, giving the ship's true heading.

The supplied unit is a black gyrosphere with serial number 109669 engraved on the surface and an orange Anschütz label with the same number. The "Installation Date" field on the label is empty, which shows it has not been installed.
