The KYMA KDU-110 is the performance monitoring display unit of the KYMA Shaft Power Meter (also called KYMA Horsepower Meter or torque meter). It is mounted in the engine control room or on a console and shows the live shaft speed, shaft power, shaft torque and total shaft revolutions of the ship's propulsion shaft.

What Is This Equipment?

KYMA (Kyma AS, Bergen, Norway) has specialised in ship shaft power meters and performance monitoring for decades and joined Danelec in 2021. A KYMA power meter system uses a sensor on the propeller shaft to measure torque and speed, and the display unit calculates and shows shaft power.

The KDU-110 is the front display of this system. It has a monochrome LCD screen, five function keys (F1–F5), and up/down keys for screen contrast and backlight brightness. The screen on the supplied unit shows SHAFT SPEED, SHAFT POWER, SHAFT TORQUE and SHAFT TOTAL REVOLUTIONS, with the soft-key menu CONFIG, ENERGY, ZEROCAL, RESET and ITIME (integration time, shown as 5 Min).

The label on top of the panel, "KW=PSx0.7355, 16033.9KW=21800 PS", shows the conversion from metric horsepower (PS) to kW and the engine power rating (21,800 PS = 16,033.9 kW) of the vessel where the unit was installed.
