The Tokyo Keiki (Tokimec) TG-6000 Gyrocompass is a compact marine gyrocompass that gives ships an accurate true-north heading for steering, radar, ECDIS, autopilot and other bridge equipment. The system consists of a master compass and a control unit; this set shows the master compass with its heading card, the control electronics chassis and the TG-6000 operation panel. What Is This Equipment?

A gyrocompass uses a fast-spinning gyroscope that settles on the earth's true meridian, so it is not affected by magnetism like a magnetic compass. In the TG-6000 the sensitive element inside the master compass senses true north; the control unit supplies power, controls the follow-up system and sends heading data (NMEA 0183 compatible) to repeaters, autopilot, radar, ECDIS, AIS and VDR. The operation panel shows status and alarms and allows settings such as speed and latitude correction.
