It stores the most recent voyage data – navigation data, radar and ECDIS images, bridge audio and VHF communications – in a hardened memory module built to survive fire, impact and deep-sea pressure after a marine casualty.

What Is This Equipment?

Under SOLAS, many ships must carry a VDR – the "black box" of the ship. In the Furuno VR-7000 system, the VR-7010 Data Collecting Unit (DCU) collects data from sensors, microphones, VHF, radar and ECDIS, and continuously sends it to the protective capsule.
