The Furuno VR-7000 is a modern voyage data recorder (VDR) – the “black box” of a ship. It continuously records navigation data, radar and ECDIS images, VHF radio traffic and bridge audio, and stores them in a protected capsule so that the last hours before an incident can be recovered and investigated. Carriage of a VDR is mandatory under SOLAS for passenger ships and most cargo ships.
Furuno is one of the world’s best-known names in marine electronics, and the VR-7000 (with its simplified version, VR-7000S) is installed on a large number of merchant ships worldwide. SM MARINE SERVICE™ has VR-7000 systems and individual VDR spare parts – microphones, remote alarm panels, capsules, DCU boards and storage – for ships in every part of the world. Send your inquiry through https://www.smmarineservice.com/.
The VR-7000 collects data from the ship’s sensors and bridge equipment in the Data Collecting Unit (DCU) VR-7010. Audio comes from bridge microphones (VR-7011 indoor, VR-7012W outdoor) and VHF; video comes from radar and ECDIS via the IF-7100 Video LAN Converter; serial, analog and digital signals arrive through sensor adapters MC-3000S, MC-3010A and MC-3020D.
The DCU stores 30 days of data on its SSD and copies the last 48 hours to the protective capsules: a fixed data recording unit that survives fire, impact and deep immersion, and a float-free data recording unit that releases and floats if the ship sinks. The VR-7017 Remote Alarm Panel on the bridge shows the system status, alarms and allows the officer to save data (“Extract”) after an incident.

A VDR is a mandatory, class- and flag-approved system. When one part fails – a microphone, a capsule or the RAP – replacing it with the same Furuno VR-7000 part keeps the installation, wiring, configuration and approval unchanged, so the ship can pass its Annual Performance Test without a full VDR replacement.
A voyage data recorder (VDR) that records navigation data, audio, VHF and radar/ECDIS images on ships.
The Data Collecting Unit (DCU) – the main recording unit of the VR-7000.
The Remote Alarm Panel with 4.3" colour LCD installed on the bridge.
