A gyro compass is installed inside the ship, so its heading must be repeated wherever it is needed. A bearing repeater is a repeater compass designed to be mounted on a bearing bracket or pelorus stand on the bridge wing. A bearing sight (such as the Anschütz CP 190) is placed on top, so the officer can read true bearings directly from the compass card.
