The NABCO MG-800 Actuator Drive Unit is the power stage of the MG-800 digital electronic governor system, one of the most common governor systems on large two-stroke main engines built in Japan and Asia. It receives the speed-control command from the governor control unit and drives the electric governor actuator that moves the engine’s fuel rack.
NABCO, today part of Nabtesco Corporation, introduced the MG-800 series in 1987 for large low-speed diesel engines, and hundreds of systems are still in service on bulk carriers, tankers and container ships. SM MARINE SERVICE™ supplies refurbished MG-800 actuator drive units, junction boxes and governor spare parts worldwide – send your inquiry through https://www.smmarineservice.com/.
A digital governor system controls main-engine speed by adjusting fuel. In the NABCO/Nabtesco system, a governor control unit in the engine control room calculates the required fuel index from the speed set-point and the actual speed measured by a pulse generator / pick-up on the engine. The actuator drive unit (ADU) converts this command into motor power for the electric governor actuator (EAR series), which turns the fuel linkage.
The ADU is typically installed in the engine control room or workshop, and connects to the actuator and sensors through a junction box such as the JB-GOV supplied with this unit.

The following components were identified inside the photographed actuator drive unit or belong to the MG-800 system:
Heat-sink mounted module inside the ADU, label: TYPE GPAR-24NTS1, SER. No. D1112361, DATE 20.10. Its exact function (servo amplifier / power module) and manufacturer are not verified; please send the full label if you need an exact match.

Internal module label: TYPE GPAR-24NTS1, SER. No. D1112361, DATE 20.10.
Three-phase EMI/RFI filter (3 × 5.0 mH, 6 × 0.47 µF X2, 3 × 3300 pF Y, 3 × 470 kΩ bleed resistors), 250 V AC, 20 A, 50/60 Hz, -25/+50 °C, UL/CSA marked, Made in Japan. Suppresses electrical noise between the ship’s supply and the drive electronics.
Drive and interface circuit boards inside the ADU. Board numbers are not clearly visible in the supplied photographs – not verified.
NABCO governor junction box connecting the ADU with the actuator, pick-up and control unit via multi-pin connectors.

Inside the actuator drive unit: GPAR-24NTS1 module on heat sink and Okaya 3SUP-H20H-ER-4 noise filter.
Safety: the cabinet carries “Voltage may cause electric shock” warnings. Switch off power before checking, and never operate with the door or protective cover open. Changes to the governor system must be coordinated with engine control procedures and the engine maker.

The MG-800 governor is built into the engine control system of many vessels, with matching actuator, control unit, cabling and settings approved together with the engine maker. Replacing a faulty ADU with the same type keeps the complete governor system, parameters and approvals unchanged – avoiding a costly governor retrofit and long off-hire time.

The MG-800 family uses Nabtesco EAR-series actuators such as EAR-100, EAR-120A, EAR-500A and EAR-1000A; the correct ADU/actuator match must be confirmed.
It is the type marking of a module found inside the photographed ADU (Ser. No. D1112361). We can source this module or a complete ADU on request.
