Reliable internal communication is essential for vessel safety. During a total blackout, conventional telephone exchanges, powered intercoms and other communication equipment may become unavailable unless supported by a functioning emergency power source.
The VSP-211-L provides an independent and mechanically initiated communication method. A shipboard operator selects the required station using the 12-position line selector and turns the hand crank to generate the calling signal. The called station receives an audible indication, allowing personnel at different locations to establish voice communication.
The VSP-211-L contains the system amplifier and capacitor-based energy storage arrangement used by the VSP 12-Way system. It is therefore an important main station within the complete network and should not be replaced by a different VSP station type without checking the vessel’s original wiring and system configuration.
